Healthy Club Launch 2021

No

In Feb 2020 we were accepted into Phase 4 of the Healthy Clubs programme. Although it has been a challenging year for everyone we have still managed to implement many of our programmes and look forward to putting the rest in place as restrictions are eased.

In June 2020 we promoted the Irish Life Steps challenge which was a great success we also promoted it again in early 2021

In July we promoted the counties Healthy promotion of "No Single Use Plastics"  and we will be promoting it again now that training has recommenced. We have put up the posters around the grounds

In August we kindly received additional signage from the GAA Healthy Club team which enabled us to relaunch our "NO SMOKING" policy which has been in place since 2017. The signage is now around all our pitches.

We also recognised the importance of having the clubs Eircode displayed the grounds

In September we promoted healthy eating, with players from our ladies and mens teams producing two videos with recipies from the GAA's "Recipies for Success" book. These were very well received and more recently we have promoted more healthy eating tips and recipies provided by the GAA's Healthy club team in conjunction with St, Angela's College, Sligo.

We recognised the importance of having a safe place to exercise at night so we put the lights on on our walkway for our members two evenings a week in October to December and again in February to April.

In the run up to Christmas we also promoted Louth Local Sports Partnership - Get Fit for Christmas programme

As the Ireland lights up event didn't happen this year we are also promoting the GAA & Get Ireland Walking new initiative, Keep Walking Keep Well, which is currently running for 6 weeks from the start of May to Mid June where everyone can download the Get Ireland Walking app and book a slot to use our walkway.

In May the club Committee in conjuction with the Healthy Club Committee started a Fundraiser to raise funds to put in a defibrillator that was accessible 24/7 to the club and community. We had an amazing response and within two weeks the necessary funds were raised and the new Defibrillator will be installed in conjuctions with local volunteer group East Meath Defibrillator group. The launched will be attended by all the local emergency services

The Healthy Club group has also updated A Critical incident plan to be presented the the club's main committee and proposed that the club to adopt the Cara Inclusion disability Charter.

Below is just some of the Healthy Club signage which you will find around our grounds displayed by Michelle, Irene & Ralph who are on the Healthy Club Committee.

Going forward we are in the process of launching our social football with the Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others. We hope to follow this up with Gaelic for Dad's and Lads and following some training our goal is to launch an "All Stars" programme for children with special needs.
